When and why should you service your boiler?
You should make sure that your boiler is serviced once every year in order to keep your boiler warrant valid. Once a year is regular enough to keep your boiler in good working condition and limit damage that could occur over time.
How long does a Boiler Service usually take?
It is your responsibility to ensure that the appliance is serviced and maintained by a qualified Gas Safe Registered Engineer. This process normally takes around 20 to 30 minutes to complete however if urgent repairs are required it may take longer.
What does a boiler service entail?
One of our engineers will remove the boiler case to inspect its components. They will check the boiler is working safely and efficiently. A good boiler service would include our engineers checking: gas pressure and flow, ensuring that the boiler is burning the right mixture of gas and air, seals are intact, all electrical connections are in good condition, safety devices are checked and working well, water and gas pipework and any blockages will be checked.
What is a power flush system?
A Power flush system is a deep cleansing process which dislodges deposits of sludge, rust and other debris from your central heating system. It can take several hours to flush out and can take even longer if you have a larger system or there’s a lot of deposits. After the power flush, your central heating system will contain fresh, clean water.
What is PAT Testing?
Portable appliance testing (PAT) is essentially the examination of electrical appliances and equipment to ensure that they are safe to use. Most electrical safety defects can be found by visual examination but some types of defect can only be found when PAT tested.
Electrical safety certificate?
An electrical safety certificate is required by law to ensure that the electrical installations in a rented property is safe for tenants to occupy and kept in safe condition. It is advised hat a periodic inspection is carried out on owner-occupied properties every 10 years and in rented accommodation, it is advised to be every 5 years.
We would advise that a periodic inspection is carried out at least every 10 years on properties occupied by the owner and every 5 years in rented accommodation. The test will certify whether the electrics in a property are safe and working efficiently and also shows if anything needs upgrading.
All electrical installations deteriorate with age and use. They should therefore be inspected and tested at regular intervals to check whether they are in a satisfactory condition for continued use. Such safety checks are commonly referred to as ‘periodic inspection and testing’.
